Professional Summary:

Julia Haggerty has held a joint appointment in the IoE since arriving at MSU in 2013 and assumed the role of Interim Director in January of 2021. An Associate Professor of Geography in the Department of Earth Sciences, Haggerty teaches courses in human, economic, and energy resource geography. She leads the Resources & Communities Research Group in studying the ways rural communities respond to shifting economic and policy trajectories, especially as they involve natural resources.

Prior to joining MSU, Haggerty was a post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for Sustainability at the University of Otago in New Zealand (2005-2007) and a Policy Analyst with Headwaters Economics in Bozeman, Montana (2008-2013). She is a 2021-2022 Fulbright Global Scholar and chairs the Campus Sustainability Advisory Council.
