Montana State University

Dr. Hansen is Professor in the Ecology Department and Director of the Landscape Biodiversity Lab at Montana State University. He teaches macroecology to undergraduates and landscape ecology to graduate students. His research focuses on interactions among biodiversity, climate change, and land use, with an emphasis on large landscape management and protected areas. He has been funded by NASA Earth Sciences for more than 25 years using remote sensing to enable decision support on ecological conservation by resource managers. Dr. Hansen has published widely on these topics, including the book, “Climate Change in Wildlands: Pioneering Approaches to Science and Management. More recent studies focus on monitoring the ecological quality of tropical forests. Dr. Hansen is currently the director of the MSU Institute on Ecosystems.
