Department of Agricultural Economics & Economics

Anton Bekkerman is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics and the associate director of the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station at Montana State University. He joined MSU in 2009 after completing his Ph.D. in economics at North Carolina State University. His research focuses on grain marketing and transportation issues, agricultural policy, dryland production and management, and the economics of information and education. Bekkerman's current projects look at competition among grain elevators, changes in wheat protein premiums and discounts, and the dynamics of fertilizer prices.

Bekkerman was appointed as the MAES associate director in July 2018. MAES is tasked with helping to facilitate agricultural, natural resource, and environmental research critical to addressing relevant and timely issues in Montana and to facilitate effective communication of that research to stakeholders. While the majority of faculty and associates with MAES/COA appointments are located on the main MSU-Bozeman campus and farms near the campus, many are part of the seven research centers located across Montana's diverse agricultural landscape.
