Professional Summary:

Joseph Shaw develops optical remote sensing systems and uses them for interdisciplinary environmental science. Current and recent activities include: 1) Airborne lidar and imaging for studying the ecology of Yellowstone Lake and locating invasive lake trout; 2) Thermal infrared and spectral imaging from the ground or the air for studying clouds, atmospheric aerosols, geothermal activity, wildlife, etc.; 3) Deployment of weather stations and remote instruments for measuring weather and environmental parameters and displaying data on real-time web pages; 4) Calibration of remote sensing instruments. My professional background includes academic degrees in electrical engineering and optical sciences, 12 years of experience working as a research engineer at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and 11 years as a faculty member at MSU-Bozeman. I teach classes in remote sensing systems, optical system design, and electro-optics.
