Professional Summary:
My research focuses on understanding physical and chemical influences on ecosystem structure and dynamics and associated feedback mechanisms. I am particularly interested in climate variability and its influence on biogeochemistry and the cycling of greenhouse gases. Present projects include: (1) understanding hydrologic influences on carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide fluxes from Montana forest soils at plot to landscape scale, (2) long-term study of environmental controls on ocean-atmosphere carbon dioxide fluxes in the central North Pacific, (3) ascertaining mechanisms and rates of subglacial methane cycling in the Canadian Rockies.
