Microbe-mineral interactions. Our current research involves investigation of the mechanism by which microorganisms promote incorporation of magnesium in calcium carbonates during their formation at cold seeps on the seafloor. Research is also being conducted to determine the role of thermophilic microorganisms in the transformation of naturally occurring mercury in geothermal features of Yellowstone National Park, WY.
