Research into the ecological effects of roads crosses several disciplines, but relies on the successful integration of transportation engineering and conservation biology. Since 1996, I have been directing long-term research assessing the impacts of highways and performance of their mitigation measures designed to reduce fragmentation of wildlife habitat. Since 2002, I’ve been continuing research in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and contracted as a research wildlife biologist for the Western Transportation Institute (WTI, College of Engineering) at Montana State University.

My main interests are in the spatial distribution and dynamics of non-native populations and how to detect, sample and model such populations, both in agricultural and natural systems. I am also very interested in plant dispersal and how we can use this information to improve spread predictions.
