Tony is a soils scientist, trained at the University of California Davis. He studies soil processes, from the pit to landscape scale, and across agricultural, wildland, urban, and degraded contexts. Before arriving at MSU, he taught soils and general education science courses at James Madison University in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

The primary focus of my research is on ecological landscape design in the context of community planning and site design. I am particularly interested in ecological design strategies for brownfield redevelopment and post-industrial landscapes, green infrastructure performance and services at community and regional scales, and landscape perception.
