outdoor recreation

Metcalf, Elizabeth Covelli

Assistant Professor
Society and Conservation
The University of Montana-Missoula

My research and teaching focus on the human dimensions of natural resources with an emphasis on outdoor recreation and management. I currently teach PTRM 300 Recreation Behavior and PTRM 310 Natural Resource Interpretation and Communication. I also teach a graduate level class on Perspectives in Human Dimensions of Natural Resource. My research examines the attitudes, values and beliefs of individuals and how they influence recreation choices and shape how we manage our natural resources.

Nickerson, Norma

Research Professor and Director
Society and Conservation
Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research

My research interests center around the impacts of tourism (both positive and negative) to the environment and to communities. The state of Montana, so rich in beauty, provides the back-drop for nature based tourism unparalleled anywhere in the United States. My interests center around how to have a viable tourism industry while at the same time sustaining the quality of life and natural resources in the state.
