Research/Scholarly Work:
My research is focused on understanding the long-term resilience and adaptability of Montana's dryland agroecosystems. Using the vast amounts of site-specific data collected by modern agricultural equipment in conjunction with targeted sampling, I am building a spatially explicit bioeconomic model to understand the economic and environmental trajectory of several farms under study. The model will be used to detect sets of conditions that may cause these farms to become insolvent or that will result in significant environmental degradation. This work will also incorporate a sociological component aimed at understanding whether farmers will be able to learn and adapt to changing conditions such as reduced precipitation or higher input costs.
