I am interested in parsing the effects of watershed scale land use changes from climate changes on riparian condition. In brief, my PhD effort examines changes in land cover in two watersheds in the upper Flathead River Basin that are within wilderness area and a third that is partially protected by Glacier National Park and a small regional park in British Columbia but predominantly altered from forest practice activities, agricultures and exurban expansion. I am documenting changes in land use and land cover (LULC) in these watersheds over the last 30 years using LandSat and other spatial data. Ultimately I will use metrics derived from hydrologic dynamics and from the shifting habitat mosaic of the riparian areas to parse the effects of land cover changes in the contributing basins of from land use changes in context with dynamic climatic change.
