*EVENT CANCELED - IoE Fellow Jean Dixon to Discuss Soil as part of Distinguished Lecturer Series on March 11

Dr. Jean Dixon

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED BUT WILL BE RESCHEDULED IN LATE MARCH OR APRIL.

Dr. Jean Dixon, Assistant Professor of Earth Sciences at Montana State University, will deliver a lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, as part of the Montana Institute of Ecosystems’ Distinguished Lecturer Series.

Dixon, who is in the Department of Earth Sciences in the College of Letters and Science, will present “Soil’s Outer Limits: What Isotopes from Space Tell Us About the Sensitivity of Soils at Earth’s Surface” in Ballroom C in the Strand Union Building. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served prior to the lecture.

Dixon’s research focuses on the geomorphology and geochemistry of mountain soils. She couples geochemical and isotope analyses, field observations and high-resolution topography to explore climate controls on landscape evolution and the relationships between the physical and chemical processes that produce and transform soils. Dixon received her doctorate from Dartmouth College, her bachelor’s degree from Carleton College and held research positions at Arizona State University, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences and the University of California at Santa Barbara.
