Graduate Student, Matthew Weingart, awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Matthew Weingart, first-year M.S. student in Earth Sciences, has been awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) fellowship in the area of Earth Sciences – Paleoecology, specifically for his research “examining the relationship between climate, fire, and humans over the last 15,000 years in diverse forests where people have been living for at least 13,000 years on the Flathead Indian Reservation.”

In September Matthew and his mentor, Dr. Dave McWethy, participated in the GRFP Writing Workshop made possible by funding from the Montana State University Office of the Provost.

Special thanks goes to Dr. McWethy and Dr. Cathy Whitlock who have both worked with Matt since his undergraduate studies at Salish Kootenai College.
