Dr. Ricardo Salvador, MSU Faculty and Students Present at 2019 AERO Expo

Dr. Ricardo Salvador presenting at 2019 AERO Expo at MSU

From October 25 to October 27, the Alternative Energy Resources Organization (AERO) hosted their Annual Expo at Montana State University. The conference, titled “Seeding the Future: Youth, Wisdom, and Food,” featured a diverse lineup of speakers that included MSU faculty and students from departments and programs like Land Resources and Environmental Sciences, Native American Studies, Sustainable Food and Bioenergy Systems, Townes’ Harvest Garden, and Western SARE, among others. These faculty, researchers, and students presented on topics including assessing the resiliency of farm and food systems, growing and storing produce, developing food sovereignty in the Blackfeet Nation, and writing competitive agricultural research and education grants.

In addition to these session-based presentations, the Montana Institute on Ecosystems helped support Dr. Ricardo Salvador, Director of the Food and Environment Program for the Union of Concerned Scientists, as the keynote speaker for the Expo. Dr. Salvador presented the talk “The Vision Is Easy: Are ‘We’ Willing?”, which focused on the creation of just and equitable agricultural systems and how land-grant university institutions like MSU can aid and work towards that vision.
