He has been involved with wild horse ecology and management for 30 years and recently served on the National Research Council committee of scientific experts charged with reviewing the state of knowledge regarding wild horse ecology and management. His lecture will describe the origins of wild horses in North America, public policy regarding wild horse management on western rangelands, wild horse population ecology, and the current status of wild horse populations and management.  Wild horse policy and management are at a critical crossroad and decisions made in the next few years will have fundamental impacts on horses and all natural resources on rangelands occupied by horses, as well as local communities.
