Michael Reidy is the Michael P. Malone Professor of History in the Department of History and Philosophy. He is the author of Tides of History: Ocean Science and Her Majesty’s Navy (2008), and co-author of Exploration and Science (2006) and Communicating Science (Oxford, 2000). He is also the co-general editor of the ongoing nineteen-volume Correspondence of John Tyndall (six volumes are out). His current research focuses on how the sport of mountaineering advanced science in the nineteenth century.  And, as you will see in his talk, he is also interested in the life and work of E. O. Wilson.
