Jennifer Lachowiec grew up in Indiana, competitively swimming and reading fantasy books. She completed her B.S. at the University of Wisconsin, majoring in Genetics and Anthropology and completing an Ironman triathlon. Right out of college, she moved to Seattle for her graduate studies at the University of Washington. In 2014, she graduated with a Ph.D., focusing on genetics in plants. For her post-doc, she worked on genomics and evolutionary genetics and started riding cyclocross. In 2017, she started her lab at MSU in the Department of Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology, integrating her breadth of genetics training to study the ability of plants to withstand changing environments, genetic mutation, and the randomness of development. Her next sport still awaits.
