Dr. Ballantyne's research focuses on how biogeochemical cycles and climate interact to shape Earth’s wide array of ecosystems.  He is currently conducting research on the global carbon cycle and climate feedbacks, and has previously.  looked at how ecosystems and climate have interacted over longer timescales in Earth’s history.  A component of his research has focused on how humans have altered biogeochemical cycles in the Western US.
