International Mountain Day 2012

Tue, Dec 11, 6:00 pm
Location:
Emerson Cultural Center, Bozeman, MT

Join MSU and community partners for the inaugural celebration of International Mountain Day. The event, which was begun by the United Nations and is celebrated throughout the world, is an opportunity to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build partnerships that will bring positive change to the world's mountains and highlands.

The main topic for 2012 is Mount Everest. The event takes place in the ballroom and theatre of Bozeman's Emerson Cultural Center.

An exhibitor's fair from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. will feature MSU departments and community organizations. Featured speakers, beginning at 7 p.m., include mountaineer/author Conrad Anker, MSU geologist Dr. David Lageson, and MSU graduate student Travis Corthouts.

Admission is free; donations to non-profit organizations that are affiliated with the speakers will be accepted.

The event is sponsored by the MSU Office of International Programs, the Institute on Ecosystems, and Montana NSF EPSCoR.
