Dr. Dennis Ojima received his BA and Masters Degree in Botany from Pomona College (1975) and the University of Florida (1978), and his PhD from the Rangeland Ecosystem Science Department at Colorado State University in 1987. Along with being a professor, he is also a Senior Research Scientist at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL) and a Senior Scholar at the H John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment. He is also the coordinator for the University Consortium for the DOI North Central Regional Climate Science Center based at Colorado State University. He has been in a leadership role in the global change arena where he has co-chaired (2002-2006) the development of the Global Land Project (GLP) for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and International Human Dimensions Programme (IGBP). He also directed the regional climate change assessment for the Central Great Plains as part of the US National Assessment of the Potential Consequences of Climate Variability and Change (1997-2000); a contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He has been honored by being selected as an Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellow (1999); awarded the 2005 Zayed International Prize for the Environment as a contributing member to the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment; and was among the IPCC set of contributors awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He has served on the ESA Board as a Member at Large (2005-2007) and served as the interim Director of NREL (2005-2006). He is currently serving on the NRC Committee for Human Dimensions of Global Change and the USGCRP Carbon Cycle Science Working Group.
