Faculty spotlight: Jonah Morsette

Jonah Morsette

Jonah Morsette is a faculty member at Little Big Horn College in the Math Department. He teaches in the EPSCoR Accelerated Math Program (profiled in the September 2013 newsletter) during the summer and teaches courses in calculus, pre-calculus and college algebra during the academic year, in addition to providing regular follow up with the participants in the Accelerated Math Program.

Morsette, whose Indian name is “Has Good Luck with Charcoals” is an enrolled member of the Crow Tribe and a member of the Whistling Water Clan and child of the Greasy Mouth Clan. Morsette has an associate’s degree from Little Big Horn College and bachelor’s degree from Montana State University, and credits his late grandmother as an inspiration for valuing education and working hard. He participated in Upward Bound in Middle School and the Bridges to Baccalaureate program at MSU while a student at Little Big Horn College.

These opportunities inspired and motivated him in his success as a geohydrology major at MSU. Morsette said he enjoys providing that same support and motivation to students at Little Big Horn in his teaching role and hopes to inspire more native students in science and math.
