Kunkel, Kyran

Senior Scientist
Wildlife Restoration and Science
American Prairie Reserve
Professional Summary:

Dr. Kyran Kunkel is also an affiliate professor in the Wildlife Biology Program at the University of Montana and a research associate at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. Kyran leads the science program for American Prairie Reserve where we are working in Montana to build and restore the largest wildlife reserve in the lower 48 states. We have countless opportunities and needs to collaborate with science institutions to assess ecological baselines, implement restorations, conduct basic research, monitor system responses and successes, and adapt. We are working to build a conservation design of a core reserve, buffers, and connectivity through central Montana to the Greater Yellowstone and Crown of the Continent ecosystems. This is an incredible grassland system to work in. We will benefit much by learning from and working with scientists associated with IOE and we believe vice versa. We are looking for innovations in ecosystem restoration and conservation in the reserve and in working landscapes. We are working to build a world-class reserve and science program.
