I teach courses in American Environmental Literature and the U.S. West in fiction and film. I have written a book entitled, Nature's State: Imagining Alaska as the Last Frontier (Univ. of North Carolina Press, 2001), and also edited the book, Postwestern Cultures: Literature, Theory, Space (Univ. of Nebraska Press 2007). My academic essays on environmental fiction and film have appeared in edited volumes on Cormac McCarthy and Owen Wister as well as in journals such as American Literary History, Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and the Environment, Modern Fiction Studies, and Genre: Forms of Discourse and Culture (forthcoming).
