Professional Summary:

My research is at the intersection of changing urban climate, urban design and urban building energy use in order to mitigate negative environmental effects of urban built environment. This research contributes towards understanding the role of built environment through morphological and materials perspectives that create unique urban micro-climatic conditions, which significantly influence energy, environmental and sustainable performance. Using street geometry as a common urban design denominator for a group of buildings, investigation focused on micro-climatic influences, primarily heat island effect, the difference between urban and rural dry bulb temperatures, on urban building energy needs. Significant research findings include effects of land-uses and street geometry on warming air temperatures and a quantified relationship between density of built-up area and its energy needs including carbon emissions.
